The History of Lesage Pianos

Lesage Pianos Ltd. has a rich history in the piano manufacturing industry. Founded in 1891 by Damase Lesage in Ste-Thérèse-de-Blainville, the company grew rapidly, becoming a major piano supplier in Quebec. The firm underwent several name changes and ownership transitions, including partnerships with Procule Piché and later the Willis family. In 1942, it adopted the name Lesage Pianos Ltd. and expanded its production significantly.

Despite its success and expansion, including acquiring other piano companies like Craig Piano Co and Bell Piano and Organ Co, the company faced challenges in the latter part of the 20th century. Production declined, and the firm eventually closed in 1989. Throughout its history, Lesage pianos were known for their excellent sound and elegant design, specializing primarily in uprights with some grand pianos. Their instruments had a strong reputation in Canada and were also exported internationally in earlier years.
