Jared James Nichols has steadily built a reputation as one of the most talented guitarists in the world today—truly a “player’s player.” For 14 years, Jared has been a proud Blackstar Artist, and Blackstar has been equally honored to collaborate with him on his second signature model, the JJN 50 and JJN 212 VOC. As Jared’s career has flourished, so have the stages he plays on, and naturally, his amplifier needed to evolve as well. To meet this demand, Blackstar worked closely with Jared, resulting in the new JJN 50—a project they are extremely proud to unveil.
Road-tested and Fine-Tuned for BLUES POWER Tones
After being rigorously road-tested during tours across the UK and Europe, the amp was fine-tuned to perfection, delivering Jared’s signature BLUES POWER tones. Jared has been using a St. James 50 EL34H live since its launch, alongside his JJN 20, and his new signature amp is built on that same foundation. By collaborating closely with him, Blackstar was able to enhance the amp’s top-end response, allowing a broader spectrum of frequencies to shine through. This adjustment is especially suited to Jared’s finger-style technique, making the notes pop and snap off his fingers with a more percussive feel.
Unique BLUES POWER Circuit and Speaker Configuration
Blackstar incorporated a unique BLUES POWER circuit, giving the amp an extra punch of overdrive, with rich harmonics and overtones. During Jared’s visit to Blackstar HQ in Northampton, UK, they tested numerous speaker types and configurations.
Speaker Blend and Signature Design
Jared’s top choice was a combination of a Celestion G12T-75 in the top position and a lightweight Celestion Zephyr speaker in the bottom. This blend not only kept the cabinet lightweight but also perfectly complemented Jared’s dynamic playing style. To complete the design, Blackstar outfitted the new amp in Jared’s signature British Racing Green livery. Each amp also comes with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Jared, along with some cool JJN collectibles.
